Detoxing for Health

In previous columns I have explained some of the toxins we absorb from some of the foods we eat, the worst being pesticides and herbicides in GMO foods, processed food products, processed sugar and flour.  We also take in many other toxins from water, non-organic fruits and vegetables, the air we breathe and products we use on our bodies.  These include everything from soaps, shampoos, deodorants, toothpaste, colognes and perfumes, cleansers and cosmetics. 

We are exposed to so many toxins that newborn babies are born with over 200 toxins.

 

This is why it is extremely important for everyone to detoxify their bodies at least once or twice a year. This can be done in a number of ways.  What I recommend is switching to a clean, non-soy, non-whey organic protein shake as a meal replacement twice a day and eating a clean meal once a day along with several body cleansing products.  This will give your body a rest from having to digest so much food, as digestion takes up a lot of energy.  It gives your body time to process and remove the toxins.  Benefits to detoxing are numerous.  They include balancing your bodies PH, which is huge in reducing inflammation.  Inflammation is the root cause of most disease and we all know that cancer thrives in an acidic environment. 

 

It has also been shown to lower your bad cholesterol, balance your blood sugar and help you lose weight.  This is due to the fact that toxins are stored in our fat cells.  The more toxins, the larger our fat cells.  Most of the fat cells that store the toxins are visceral fat cells.  These are the fat cells within the abdominal cavity that protect internal organs such as the liver, pancreas and intestines.  If you have belly fat you’d like to get rid of, the quickest way is through detoxing.

 

I experienced this first hand.  I lost 30 pounds just by doing a detox program.  No exercise routine can help you lose weight around your middle like a detox program can.  You can’t out-exercise the fork.  Other benefits I experienced were lowered cholesterol, more energy and better sleep.  This detox program is what started me on my journey to learn all I could about nutrition, healthy eating and how what we eat and put on our skin is so much more important than most people realize. 

 

My experience is what led me to want to teach people how to get healthy from the inside out as a Healthy Lifestyle Coach.  There are so many food products and body and hair care products that should scare you.  We think if it’s on the store shelf, it is safe to use.  We think our government protects us from harmful ingredients, but in reality, there are over 4000 chemical ingredients that have been banned by other countries that the US allows in our products. 

 

We all need to read labels and educate ourselves, because no one else is going to protect us.
